HEALTH AS A LEADERSHIP FUNCTION

Leaders as role models

In our increasingly stressed and aging society, CHM and sound self-management are functions of responsible leadership. Leaders need to attentively support their team members in maintaining their personal wellbeing with great sensitivity and empathy, albeit with restraint. At the same time, their function as role models requires constant reflection on their own health-related lifestyle.

Health is a leadership function

Health is a highly personal subject – and due to its private and personal nature, is frequently blocked out in the organisational context. However, attentive leaders sense imbalances among peers or team members and also recognise risks to their own health. In that case, as guardians of their own and others’ ability to perform and achieve goals, they have to resolutely respond to health issues.

Health as a leader’s concern

Leaders that embrace health as part of their leadership role, need to approach the subject on many levels: self-reflection and empathy are equally important as the recognition of one’s own or others’ weaknesses or limits. As external consultants we provide advice and support to leaders in meeting this demand of their leadership role.
